“Off the Page,” In the Lens, and On Air–it’s been an exciting week.

Off the Page at Left Coast Books

As some of you may know, one of my professors, Kip Fulbeck, and I have been organizing a spoken word show at Left Coast Books in Goleta.  The show is coming up on FridayMay 20th,  from 7-9 p.m., and it will feature current and former students from Kip’s spoken word classes.  There will be refreshments and lot of wonderful performances, so come on out if you’re in the area!  Admission is $5 for student [bring access cards!] or $10 for non-students.

On Air…

Demi Anter Sina Dailey and Teagan Miller on Ted Coe's KCSB show

Some “Off the Page” performers had the opportunity to speak with KCSB’s Ted Coe today on his radio show, “The Freak Power Ticket.”  Chanel Miller, Sina Dailey, Teagan Miller, and I talked to Ted about spoken word, music, and the upcoming show in Goleta.

Ted and I actually met a while back when I interviewed Blvd Park and Musical Charis.  Ted brought the band out to Santa Barbara for their performance at the Mercury Lounge [right next door to Left Coast] and to interview them on KCSB as well.

I think I speak for all of us when I say it was a pleasure to perform on air.  We all had so much fun.  Thank you so much, Ted!

UPDATE: You can now listen to the interview HERE.

And in the lens…?

Last but not least, I was asked by my friend Nicole Nelson to help with a couple of photo shoots for her finals this week [if you were in I.V. this weekend, you may have seen Nicole taking pictures on DP Saturday night in a makeshift photo booth–a fabulous idea].

The focus of the first shoot with me was “environmental portraiture” — a.k.a. someone in their natural environment.  Since my natural environment of chili pepper lights and record covers is something I talked about with Ted this morning, and also have mentioned in spoken word pieces, I figured these were worth sharing.  The other picture is just fun, and very, very red.
